New Year, New Approach
December 17, 2008 by Julie Kreisler
As the New Year approaches, many companies are struggling with the direction of their marketing strategies and how to implement them. There are no certainties in marketing, but something must be done to promote your business.
The news media has nothing positive to say. It’s doom and gloom every way you turn. How do we get out from under these clouds? If your business is like many others, you have these same concerns and may be in a place where you need to do something! Now!
Here are a few tips to help you take a new approach to your company’s marketing strategy:
- Take an out-of-the-box approach to your marketing. Now is the time for the underdogs, or should I say smaller companies, to get out there. Take some of the market share that your competitors are failing to fight for right now. When our economy does turn around, you will be top of mind, not your competitors. Not to mention that your prominence is also a sign of good financial health
- One great idea can generate several great opportunities. It’s OK to engage in self-promotion. Come up with a new slogan or a seasonal campaign, and use that imagery or verbiage in everything you do. My company recently launched our own PR campaign. The campaign theme is fun and eye-catching. We targeted the local media with our endeavors and are using the theme in e-mail and holiday cards to continue branding the company. We aren’t letting the media or the state of the economy render us stagnant. It’s important to be assertive and proactive.
- Networking is also a crucial activity. It’s a fact that people like doing business with people they know. If you turn up at any local networking event you can possibly attend, you will see familiar faces time and time again. The more people you know and who know you, the bigger opportunity you have to increase your sales and referral business.
Remember, the economy is cyclical and things will turn around. They always do. But for now, grab opportunity. Be optimistic. Take advantage of the time when not all of your competitors are being aggressive. Don’t be afraid to be different! SFW
